Everything beyond the usual lists
Experience Salzburg through our eyes.
La Maison is nestled in the heart of the Old Town — secluded enough for tranquility, yet perfectly placed for discovery. From exhibitions and little boutiques to cafés full of character, we invite you to explore our favorite places for gourmets, art lovers, wanderers, and shopping kings and queens.
Our citymountain "Kapuzinerberg"
Just a few steps from the hotel rises one of Salzburg’s most fascinating places: the Kapuzinerberg. From the outside, it appears to be a quiet city hill, but those who know it understand that this is where Salzburg’s heart of adventure, culture, and enjoyment beats away from the usual routes.
For walkers
Shaded forest paths, historic chapels, and the somewhat hidden entrance to the Capuchin monastery invite you to stroll and breathe deeply. A place full of tranquility — right in the middle of the city.
For adventurers
Very few visitors know that the Kapuzinerberg has a via ferrata. From the urban streets straight up into the rocks — this extraordinary route opens up entirely new perspectives of Salzburg. And those who look closely may discover the city’s most unusual “residents”: the world’s only urban chamois, living among the rocks high above the city.
our Steingasse
Taking a leisurely stroll through the immediate neighborhood of our hotel is well worth it.
Charming medieval houses as well as the occasional restaurant await you there. The Andreas Hofer Weinstube has existed for 100 years and invites you to enjoy a cozy glass of wine. At the Vinothek Köchelverzeichnis, you can taste wines in a very special atmosphere.
Those who love gin & tonic will be delighted by unique flavors at Flavour — you only need to turn briefly off Steingasse, as the entrance to this restaurant on Steingasse is actually located at the front on Imbergstrasse.
Salzburg is filled with magnificent buildings and palaces, and among the prominent landmarks of Mirabell Palace, Hellbrunn Palace, and Hohensalzburg Fortress, there is a less famous but all the more charming building — Arenberg Palace, located at the end of Steingasse. The garden is perfect for a leisurely stroll.

Our recommendation at lofty heights: Steinterrasse inspired by Senns
High above the rooftops of the city, with views of the fortress and the entire Old Town, the Steinterrasse at Hotel Stein combines modern design, a relaxed atmosphere, and refined cuisine.
From breakfast to sundowner, it delivers exactly what you hope for when you want to experience Salzburg at its most beautiful: taste, style, and panorama in perfect balance.
For those who don’t just want to see Salzburg, but truly experience it.
Whether breakfast, lunch, dinner, or a nightcap above the city lights:
Here, design, atmosphere, and flavor come together to create a place that is more than just a rooftop.
It is an experience, a highlight, a small flirtation with elegance itself.
And yes — one of the most beautiful spots in the city.
Officially. Unmistakably. Irresistibly.

In Grödig, you’ll find a bistro that is far more than just a fish restaurant:

Enjoy Salzburg from above
There are moments when Salzburg is not just a city, but a scene — a glowing panorama of towers, fortress, and mountains that only fully reveals itself from above.
Whether from the fortress terrace, the carillon, or the Kapuzinerberg:
From above, Salzburg feels like a quiet greeting from another time — enchanting, clear, and irresistible.
Enjoy Salzburg from above
Rustic, charming, and full of heart — Salzburg’s heights in their coziest form
Those who love the down-to-earth atmosphere will find their happiness at the Stadtalm on the Mönchsberg — rugged, authentic, with a panorama that takes your breath away. Equally charming is the Stieglkeller, whose name is misleading, as hardly any beer garden sits so majestically above the rooftops, so open and wide, and so wonderfully inviting.
For those who prefer it more elegant
M32 on the Mönchsberg, the stylish Imlauer Sky Bar, or hugoes14 in the city’s second tallest building: here, modern ambience meets sparkling views, every angle another postcard motif. Every height reveals a different piece of Salzburg — and yet it always feels familiar.
Even higher — when the sky is calling
Those who truly want to celebrate the sunset head up to the Gaisberg. Whether on foot, by road bike or mountain bike — or comfortably by bus (line 151 from Mirabellplatz): up here, a wide view over city and countryside awaits, best enjoyed with a sundowner at one of the two year-round establishments run by the Kohlmayr family. A moment that stays with you. Further south, the Untersberg cable car takes you even closer to the clouds. Combined with a short hike, the Zeppezauerhaus awaits — a place where homemade mountain cuisine is as honest as the view is truly impressive.
Art and Culture
For hip concert events, head to local cultural venues such as the Volksgarten or the Rockhouse. Regular multi-day music events, smaller pop and rock concerts, and other cultural events take place there — the kind you won’t find in the big travel guides.
The Red Bull ice hockey arena is also located at the Volksgarten and is well worth a visit: cheer together with the locals for the ice hockey teams and you’ll immediately feel like a local yourself. On certain days there is Ladies’ Night — free entry for women.
Talented students from all over the world are drawn to SEAD, the Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance, a training center for contemporary dance and choreography. But beyond its professional training programs, SEAD is also a year-round production and performance venue for contemporary dance and performance art, enriching Salzburg’s cultural scene with numerous events. Those who don’t just want to watch but want to dance themselves can also take part in various workshops at SEAD.
You can also join in at Kapitelplatz, right next to the giant golden sphere by artist Stephan Balkenhol, where you’ll find a chessboard with oversized pieces. If you dare, you can quickly make local acquaintances — there is almost always someone ready for a game.
Craftsmanship and tradition to take home
Behind historic walls, in old vaults and lovingly preserved workshops, true masterpieces are created here — crafted with patience, skill, and passion passed down through generations.
The Kirchtag umbrella manufactory is located in the only tower of Getreidegasse. Founded in 1895 by Alois Kirchtag, it is now the last traditional umbrella manufacturer in Central Europe and is run by Andreas Kirchtag in the fourth generation. A wonderful souvenir from Salzburg is a handcrafted umbrella.
The traditional locksmith Wieber is hidden rather inconspicuously, yet metalworking has been practiced here since 1415. Repairs, sensitive restoration work, and new custom pieces are still carried out with the greatest care.
The belt maker Schliesselberger is the last remaining workshop in this traditional leather district in Dreifaltigkeitsgasse that still processes leather. The in-house workshop, where belts are made and repairs are carried out by a patient master craftsman, can be visited.
For those with a passion for exceptional cutting tools, knife maker Kappeller is a specialist in handcrafted knives made with special materials and decorative details.
When stepping into Knopferlmayr, a needlework and button shop, sewing and handicraft enthusiasts will discover a paradise. More than 250 years old and offering a huge selection of buttons, trimmings, and sewing supplies — a true piece of Salzburg’s craft history.
