Top Secret

Everything you won't find on the usual lists

Discover Salzburg - through our eyes. La Maison is located in the heart of the old town! Hidden enough for tranquility, central enough for discoveries. Whether exhibitions, small boutiques or a café with character, we'll show you our favorite places for connoisseurs, art connoisseurs, walkers and shopping kings and queens.

The Weiß Handloom Weaving Company has existed since 1843. Since 1950, it is located in the Niederleghof, an old part of the city wall from the 13th century, and is now run by Maximilian Weiß, the fifth generation. Handwoven rugs can be purchased in the shop, and the workshop can be visited.
The Kirchtag umbrella factory is located in the only tower of Getreidegasse. Founded by Alois Kirchtag in 1895, it is now the last handcrafted umbrella production in Central Europe and is run by Andreas Kirchtag, the fourth generation. A great gift from Salzburg is a handmade umbrella.

The traditional locksmith Wieber is inconspicuously concealed, but the locksmith's trade has been practiced here since 1415. Repairs, sensitive restoration work, and new creations are still carried out with the utmost care.

The belt maker Schliesselberger is the last business that still processes leather in this traditional leather quarter in Dreifaltigkeitsgasse. The in-house workshop, where belts and repairs are processed by patient master hands, can be inspected.
The knife maker Kappeller, as a specialist in handmade knives with special materials or embellishments, is interesting for people with a penchant for extraordinary cutting tools.

On entering Knopferlmayr's handwork and button shop, a paradise opens up for sewing and handwork enthusiasts. Over 250 years old with a huge selection of buttons, trims and craft supplies – a real piece of Salzburg craft history.

About 25 km outside of Salzburg, but also reachable by train and bus in a good half hour, is a tailoring company with 300 years of tradition: The family business "Wimmer tailors" is being run by a woman for the first time in ten generations. Monika Ebner values regional value creation and has consciously kept the business at its original location in the idyllic Schleedorf. With employees from the region, the sewing work is done on site. Tradition, custom work and real craftsmanship create a wonderful traditional costume in the Salzburg lake region.
